Characterisation of the Hydrogeological Properties of the Ntane Sandstone Aquifer Using Co-Seismic and Post-Seismic Groundwater Level Responses to the Mw 6.5 Moiyabana Earthquake, Central Botswana

The 3 April 2017 Mw 6.5 Moiyabana earthquake (Central Botswana) had a significant impact on groundwater levels; gradual co-seismic increase and stepwise decline in levels were observed response to the at boreholes MH2 Z12836, respectively. In this study, we investigated of Earth tides by computing amplitude phase shift M2 tidal constituent estimate temporal variations storativity, transmissivity, permeability Ntane sandstone aquifer (the main system) prior after event. storativity computed for borehole showed decrease magnitude 3.17432 × 10−4 1.85 10−13 m2 respectively, indicating that strong ground shaking might have consolidated material, thus resulting decreased permeability. coefficient 2.85 while was enhanced 0.047 Z12836. Enhanced resulted from increased/enhanced fracturing aquifer, fracture clearing dynamic shaking.
